Otaue Festival (Pray for good harvest)
‘Otaue`, a ritual that prays for a good harvest in autumn is a traditional event that lasts for hundreds of years. It has been designated as a folk cultural property of Ashikaga City (March 13, 1986). On the day, all ‘Ujiko`(Shrine Parishner) gather in front of the shrine and the priest simulate a series of farming by using straw and old-fashioned agricultural equipment.
The straw used in this ceremony is divided into the farmers. There are legends that if farmers use this straw to bundle seedlings when planting rice, crops will not be harmed by locusts and pests and you will have a good harvest
